Jackie Ryan is an artist and prize-winning writer with an abiding interest in culture that connects her work across forms and genres. She authored We’ll Show the World: Expo 88 (UQP), which won two 2018 Queensland Literary Awards (the Queensland Premier’s Award for a Work of State Significance and the USQ History Book Award) and was shortlisted for a third (The Courier-Mail People’s Choice Queensland Book of the Year Award). She was also the recipient of a 2018 Queensland Writers Fellowship. Ryan produces the Aurealis Award-winning ‘Burger Force’ comic book series (also twice shortlisted in the Ledger Awards for Excellence in Australian Comics), and is the founding editor of the comedy writing collective ‘The Fanciful Fiction Auxiliary’. She holds a PhD in History and Political Science from The University of Queensland.
In 2012, Ryan’s Burger Force and FFA websites were archived by the National Library of Australia as sites of cultural significance, and her work has been exhibited at the Brisbane Powerhouse, the Stan Lee Comikaze Expo in Los Angeles, Woodford Folk Festival, and Brisbane City Council’s Vibrant Laneways project.
